Devin is very excited for Dark Matinee coming up on June 3rd at The Palms Bar in West Hollywood, as he will be performing with three different bands!  Turbo Sunshine, a project led by his brother Brandon Strecker and drummer Dolly Dagger, will be making their debut!  Devin plays keyboards and sings in this band.

Up next will be Devin Tait & the Traitors, debuting a few new songs and their new "electro" sound!  You won't want to miss this short but sweet set chock full of danceable tunes and a couple cover songs.

Lastly, Invisible Material, with Devin on drums, will be rocking out with songs like "Gonna Get Drunk and Tell Her That I Like Her" and "Daddy Issues."

Doors open at 2, show begins at 3.  $3 domestic beers, 3 great bands, what more could you ask for?

Devin was honored to perform with the legendary Gay-Gays, the all-gay male Go-Go's celebration at the Eagle LA on Sunday.  The band was paying tribute to the 30th anniversary of the seminal album "Beauty and the Beat" by performing the entire album in order.  Devin joined the band for the encore, consisting of the hits "Head Over Heels" and "Vacation."  Devin previously performed "Head Over Heels" with the band many years ago at what had been billed as it's farewell concert at the Key Club in West Hollywood.

Shows cancelled

Unfortunately, both shows in May have been cancelled by the promoter, as they are no longer working with the venues El Cid or Falcon. The band may try to schedule another show in May to make up for it. However, Turbo Sunshine, the project fronted by Brandon Strecker with Devin on keyboard and Dolly Dagger on drums aims to make their live debut in May so the Traitors might take a short break.

Welcome, Liana Hernandez

Welcome the newest Traitor, Liana Hernandez! Liana made her debut last month at Red Rock Bar on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, singing harmonies and playing a little tambourine! Brandon Strecker, now on bass, and Myles Matisse on drums complete the lineup now, while Devin has been performing electric piano. The upcoming gigs will feature some variations on this lineup depending on the venue and availability of the Traitors. We are very excited to be making debuts at three great new venues in the coming weeks including the amazing and historic El Cid Theatre! We're also thrilled to be going back to Long Beach again and sharing a fantastic night with our old friends Shitting Glitter and Crush 333! Acoustic Playhouse @ Red Rocks Setlist

Devin Tait & The Traitors performed at Acoustic Playhouse, upstairs at Red Rock Bar on the Sunset Strip, on Friday, February 17. A new Traitor, Liana Hernandez, made her debut on vocals!

2. Doctor! Doctor! (Thompson Twins cover)
3. Tape
4. Strange Season
5. Roam (B-52's cover)

This show marked the premiere of "Tape" and "Digital Representation" in this set up.

Review of "The Other Door" Show

Here's Devin's first live show review! So maybe it's written by Brandon Strecker, who happens to be not only Devin's brother but also a member of The Traitors, but hey, at least he took the time to write it! He posted the review on his blog, External Mind Drive, which we recommend you check out and follow.

Devin Tait Live at The Other Door 2/8/12

The Other Door is located on a slightly sleepy stretch of Burbank Blvd, it used to be a lesbian establishment called Moon Shadows. I had been to Moon Shadows many times and even played there once in my old band. I was immediately impressed by the changes in decor they had made, though I felt a bit like they were over reaching to charge a $5 cover for what is still essential a neighborhood bar, albeit a very nice one.

The event began early on a Wednesday night, so only a small crowd had the pleasure of hearing Devin Tait perform. Listening to the sound man set up and check I quickly felt much better about where my $5 cover went. The sound system in the bar has been heavily upgraded and having a competent personable sound man there for the evening is no small expense.

Devin usually plays shows with a band as Devin Tait and the Traitors, and in the interest of disclosure I will admit that I'm usually a Traitor. This was a rare treat for me to be able to just sit back and listen. When playing solo the shows are quieter and simpler, just Devin and an electric piano.

The show opened with "Alien Nation", the song has been re-worked since it was recorded for his album and now features a stunning intro and outro, both of which really add a layer of drama. The intro with big open chords becomes the perfect counter point to the large left hand bass drones that start the first verse. It felt like a perfect way to start the set. Devin was confident on this tune and the vocal delivery in particular stood out as being spot on.

After the first song Devin took a brief pause to introduce a cover by what he said was one of his favorite bands. He then Launched into "Doctor Doctor" by the Thompson Twins. For a song usually dripping with Synthesizer it translated well to the piano.

A never before played live B-side was up next, "k18" which was just released as the flip side to the single "Tape". Some of the vocal notes in the first verse of this song appeared to put Devin's low vocal register to the test, but he did manage to always just reach them. The song is quite beautiful and I found my self transported to lonely stretches of American back roads as it played.

"Strange Season" is a stand out Track from Devin's 2011 album "It's Never the Way You Imagine" and every bit of the beauty and atmosphere of the songs translates in the live performance. The vocal melody towards the end seems to have even evolved further in the numerous live performances since the albums release, there is an added power and confidence that has Devin evolving the melodic them ever so slightly, giving the song resolution live that it barely hints at on record.

"Roam" by the b52s was played next. The entire room was singing along and clapping to this one. It's ambitious to take any full band with multiple vocalists songs and play them in a stripped down solo format, but it can also be very rewarding, allowing the listener a glimpse of the song below.

The evening's highlight was the live debut of "Underwater Breathing" the 10th Track from "It's Never the Way you Imagine It". Something really came together by the time this song came up in the set. I'm not sure if the sound man made some additional tweaks or if the arrangement of this song just really shines on piano, but the bass notes in the verses of this song were simply amazing. This is the longest song from the album and it's quite a feat to play the entire thing live. Building from a beautiful piano intro, to the power of the left hand in the verses the chorus then just soars. The emotion portrayed in this song is deep and easily relate-able. The delivery of the lines: "I can't be the only one, can't feel so lonely,I had your back now I see you leaving, Suspended in motion, arrested progression, I will remain underwater breathing" provided the emotional high water mark for the evening. The instrumental break with the solo during this song was nearly note perfect, if not for one tiny flub the entire performance would have been flawless.

The set closed with a cover of "Speechless" by Lady Ga Ga. A powerful tribute from Devin to his life partner. At this point in the set the vocals were so confident an powerful it would have been easy to hear every word from the parking lot without a microphone. A very nice way to close the set, sending the folks who had gathered here off into the night feeling good.

It was a fine set, and I was glad to be there to bear witness.

Devin Tait plays again with the Traitors this Friday at Red Rocks on the Sunset Strip at 10pm.

K-18

Searching for a sound to ground me
A familiar strain, resuscitate a sliver, a morsel or a sip
Trust - I wanna fall backwards and
Know my bones won't shatter on cold marble
Blue marbles in a vase

One way trip in reverse on a track of the eighth
The blue van on track
A Sunday Drive
Back when skies were blue because they were perfect
We didn't know any other way
Clouded characters fade, drain, dissipate

And when will I feel it?
What's on the other side
When will they find out?
All of these things I hide
And I want these moments to play out
Like a movie scene
What's at the end?
K-18

Best pattern's reversible
Through my mirror I see you and you and you
"I Feel The Earth Move"
Clothes on lines with infinite time to dry
And we don't die; oh but we do die
Look ahead, he's already dead
Shattered, shattered my theory

Teach me teach
Preach me preach
Encourage me, nourish me
K-18 at night under starlight

And when will I feel it?
What's on the other side
When will they find out?
All of these things I hide
And I want these moments to play out
Like a movie scene
What's at the end?
K-18

(repeat chorus)

"Tape" Video and Single Released

"Tape" is the third single release from Devin Tait off the debut album, "It's Never The Way You Imagine It." The song is available for FREE DOWNLOAD through the Hard Rock Cafe's Hard Rock Rising Battle of the Bands Contest. (Click to download, which counts as a "vote")

The video was filmed over the weekend using an iPhone and an inexpensive sure-shot digital camera in Hollywood and West Hollywood.

The single includes two exclusive b-sides. "Strange Season (Turbo Moonshine Mix)" is a hypnotic, electro remix of the album closer, done by Tait's brother, Brandon Strecker, for his own project, Turbo Sunshine. The reworked version is very "Scritti Politti" which Tait enjoys immensely.

"K18" is a track that was originally intended to be included on the album as the final track. The stream-of-conscious lyrics reflect back on Tait's upbringing in rural northwest Kansas, name-checking the state highway which ran less than a mile from Tait's boyhood farmhouse.

Palms December 11 Set List

On December 11, Devin Tait performed an acoustic set with drummer Myles Matisse at The Palms in West Hollywood, along with fellow singer/songwriter Kevin Hardy (formerly of Slowmo Erotic). Here was the set list:

Not In A Million Years
I Say Nothing (Voice of the Beehive cover)
Here's The Thing
Heart Like A Wheel (Human League cover)
Alien Nation

Due to the preceding comedy show running over, the set time was reduced, so several songs that had been rehearsed were not played, including "Strange Season" and "Winnipeg Beach." A cover of Aqua's "Turn Back Time" had also been rehearsed. Videos, taken by Marc Loren, can be seen by clicking the links.

"Here's The Thing" is a brand new song, premiered at this show, which might be included on Devin's second album, which he is writing and recording now.
